Welcome to the site for The Catholic Campaign for Human Development of Burlington, Vermont. Here you will find information about the organization including the mission, the history of the CCHD both nationally and locally and some recent projects that receive funding through our grant program. The Vermont CCHD began in 1971, just two years after the national project was introduced. While we are a largely independent organization, we still maintain close contact with the National CCHD, headquartered in Washington, DC.

In the nearly forty years since its establishment, the Vermont CCHD has strived to help Vermonters achieve their goals of self-sufficiency and dignity in life. CCHD is striving to eradicate poverty through its support of grass roots efforts. Through the awarding of both local and national grants, we seek to empower Vermont residents to create a higher quality of life for themselves and their communities.

Over the past years the Vermont CCHD has funded various projects to help those in need in all aspects of their life. Good Beginnings of Central Vermont has received funding through our grant program for several years now and is just one example of grant dollars at work. Good Beginnings of Central Vermont matches trained volunteers with families that have a new born baby or have recently adopted a child. They offer support services for families with newborns, parent education, baby supplies and help in any other way to the family.

Another organization that has recently received a grant through the CCHD program is the John W Graham Emergency Shelter, located in Vergennes. This is the only shelter in the county that provides a safe, clean place for the neediest individuals and families to stay. The shelter offers a food shelf, laundry vouchers, transportation, counseling and medical care to those in need.

These are just two examples of the many organizations that have received funding from CCHD and only one way in which the organization is working to create a better Vermont for all its residents. Through the funding for the grant organization, both small, start-up organizations as well as large state-wide organizations can benefit from our support. CCHD is dedicated to helping Vermonters get the help they need to become an active and productive part of their communities.
